Film director and screenwriter. He was born in 1939 in Batumi. In 1964 he graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of Tbilisi University, and in 1968 — the directing faculty of VGIK (workshop of Grigory Chukhrai), defended his diploma in directing a feature film in 1971. In 1957-1959 — assistant director at the studio "Georgia-film", in parallel worked in the editorial office of the newspaper "Youth of Georgia". In 1969-1974 - director of the Telefilm creative association (Tbilisi), where he shot several documentaries, since 1974 — director of the Georgia-Film studio. At the Telefilm creative association in Tbilisi, he shot documentaries "The Decisive Step", "In the Pamir Mountains", "Zazdravnaya". Since 1970, he has directed the films "The Jug", "The Return of Olmes", "Tears of Don Juan", "The Swimmer", "Comrade Stalin's Journey to Africa", "The Best Grandmother", "Rasputin". "Swimmer" was awarded the Grand Prix of the International Film Festival in Sanremo, Italy (1986). He is the author and co-author of the scripts of his films, as well as the films "Robinsonade, or My English Grandfather" (1987), "Abrasion" (1988), "Monster or someone else" (1988), "Limit" (1994, co-author), "A Thousand and one recipes of a cook in love" (1996).
For many years he lived and worked in the USA, France, Germany. Teacher of the Higher courses of screenwriters and directors.
